IMPORTANT INFORMATION

What to expect if you are a transfer student:

QUESTION 1: Will I keep my same belt rank?

ANSWER: We have had many transfer students over the years and some have been able to keep their belt rank and others were not. At St. Louis Martial Arts Center we want to be sure that our high belts are good quality martial artists. Therefore some people who have been awarded a 1st Degree Black Belt in another school does not necessarily mean they are Black Belt quality, simply because the majority of martial arts schools push people through the belt ranks and let people pass their tests when they are not ready to pass. However, don't be discouraged because you may actually be awarded a higher rank if you deserve it as well.

Every transfer student will receive an evaluation testing and Master Ray will put you where you should be concerning belt ranking.

QUESTION 2: What if I have a certain degree black belt in one style of martial arts and another degree of black belt in a different style of martial arts.

ANSWER: The style is not necessarily the important issue. We are a mixed martial arts school. In other words, we teach a variety of different styles combined together in one curriculum. Therefore it is possible that if you are truly an experienced martial artist the following my happen:

         *   Let's say you are a 3rd degree in Karate, a 2nd Degree in Kung Fu, and a 4th Degree in Tae Kwon Do.

Master Ray will do an evaluation testing and consider your previous training and belt rankings.

Your years of experience, knowledge, skill level and maturity all play a part in your ranking. Now, it is not nessecarily appropriate to add all of your degrees together such as 3+2+4 and receive a 9th degree black belt but your certifications will be considered upon receiving your evaluation testing. For example, after years of training in Kung Fu, Master Ray received a 5th degree certification, then he trained in Tae Kwon Do and received a 2nd degree Kukkiwon Certification and a 3rd degree Certification from Grandmaster Y.C. Rho. Besides this, he has trained in several other martial arts styles. Because of having 29+ years of experience, skill, and understanding of the martial arts Grandmaster Y.S. Choi awarded him 6th degree black belt under the Sun Do Sul Federation. So instead of adding 5th degree and 3rd degree together to get 8th degree, Grandmaster Choi simply promoted Master Ray from 5th degree to 6th degree in Martial Arts. Style is not important but experience, knowledge, spiritual maturity, and skill are.

We are able to operate in this manner because we are not a "One Style" martial arts school. All martial arts expereince is considered when recieving your ranking.

If Master Ray sees that your experience is extensive and that you are going to be awarded a Master Level Ranking he will have Grandmaster Choi assist with the evaluation.

Note: St. Louis Martial Arts Center does not promote kukkiwon certification. However we can arrange for you to apply for a kukkiwon certificate for an extra expense.

 QUOTES FROM MASTER RAY:

"Someone could promote me to 100th degree if they wanted, but I will always feel like a white belt because there is so much more to learn"

"Ranking doesn't personally matter to me, what is on the inside is always more important than what is on the outside"
